Importance Of Friendship

True friendships are so important. Over the past several months I have had several friends go through some type of heart breaking situation. Its hard because I want to be the type of friend that I want to be, however I have realized that I have to be the type of friend that they need me to be. At the same time I have to take care of myself and my own feelings. In the past I have invested way to much emotion and time on what I thought were friendships. People will take advantage of you if you are always there, i.e. only call on you when something goes wrong but when its good you don't hear from them. Im over that, im no longer the one. I have also decided that I will no longer beg someone to let me be there for them either, if they don't want it then thats their loss not mine! However to all of my real friends out there, im there for you no matter what, through what ever. I recently had a co-worker thank me for attending his fathers funeral, it was extremely cold this particular day and he was sorry for the inconvenience. I told him that it was not an inconvenience because I know that he would be there me at the drop of a hat! Its such a great feeling to know that I have people that I can call anytime of day and they will be there. It was when my grandmother died when I realized which friends would "inconvenience" themselves to be there for me. It was a surprise and a let down all at the same time. It was a good lesson learned, even though Friendship is important, be careful with expectations, expectations of people lead to disappointment.
